The sun was beginning to set beyond the trees, bringing with it the cool air of dusk. Rosestar was acutely aware of the cold ground underpaw, another stark reminder of the oncoming season of Leaf-bare. She steeled her gaze ahead as she considered the encroaching chill. The harsh reality was that many cats across all the Clans wouldn't make it to Newleaf, and the young leader was already hardening her heart to the grim nature of the snowy season. She intended to do everything in her power to keep all of her cats alive; however, not even she was all-powerful. The best she could do now was prepare them, and prepare them she did. There were cats back at camp that were fortifying all of the dens and bringing more moss and feathers to nests. Their barriers, too, were being patched and strengthened with heavy focuses on both the nursery and the elders' den. Though prey ran well in RiverClan in all seasons, her Clan would not be caught slacking due to laziness. Rosestar ran a tight ship. At the present, she herself was tending to the boundary between RiverClan and WindClan. Her amber eyes were difficult to read as ever as she glanced to the moorlands. They only narrowed for a time while a brief display of disdain spurned her otherwise untarnished expression. She began the work of remarking her boundaries, taking her time to make the scent of RiverClan as obvious as one cat could. She didn't anticipate a WindClan cat daring to cross her border, but she wasn't about to invite them, either.

and if you knock knock me over i will get back up again it wasn't often that sootflurry found his way all the way to one of the borders from camp, not on his own will, not even on border patrol, half the time. although it'd since been a fair few moons that he'd joined riverclan and he'd settled rather well into clan life, the athleticism the life of a warrior required would always be rather astounding to the former kittypet. still, when his little paws did make their way to the windclan border, he was always left amazed at the views that riverclan territory had to offer. the way the river cut through the land mass like a wound that would never heal, and split riverclan from windclan, leaving the opposing clan to their vast expanse of moor. vulnerable, yet protected in the strangest ways, he thought.
a familiar scent tingled at his nose. riverclan, undoubtedly, but he still had to lift his head and part his jaw a little bit to let the stronger scent separate from the older ones marked near the border. as he came tumbling through the grass, it was only when he spotted a flash of ginger fur that he realized it was none other than rosestar he would be joining at the border. a small, goofy grin found its way onto his face, and he came springing up to her, a soft purr emitting from his throat in greeting as his tail raised into the air elatedly.
"howdy rosestar," he mewed cheerfully. sure, rosestar might have been one of the cats rather opposed to his joining of riverclan when whitestar first introduced him, but he couldn't quite blame her for being afraid of change. he was terrified when he made the decision to follow whitestar into the territories! what a life it was that he was leaving behind! "what'cha doin' all the way out here by yourself?"
it was obvious that she was tending to the border, but... he found it rather strange that she'd go out on her own. wouldn't she have liked some company?

Rosestar heard Sootflurry before she scented or saw him. One of her ears twitched at his approach, and her muscles bunched in preparation to attack. Nothing about her demeanor changed. In fact, she did not shift her gaze nor lift her head. She was a seasoned enough warrior that she could afford the luxury of a guise. She trusted her senses, and it was more likely that the steadily oncoming cat was one of her own than an enemy warrior. Unsurprisingly (to Rosestar, at least), she was correct. Sootflurry's scent hit her, followed by his voice. Of all the cats she could run into out here, it had to be the former kittypet. Slowly, the leader lifted her head to glance at the 'warrior.' He had joined RiverClan under Whitestar's leadership, and it was only out of Rosestar's great respect for her predecessor that Sootflurry stayed.
"Sootflurry," she greeted him evenly, her tone conveying none of the distrust she felt. As leader, it was her duty to interact with her warriors in a way that was becoming of her position, and she liked to believe she could do that without issue. Her feelings about Sootflurry aside, he had proven himself loyal thus far. He also hadn't done anything to warrant discipline in many moons, if ever. So, he did have that going for him. His questioning of her being out here alone, however, annoyed her.
"I think you will find that as leader of RiverClan, I have free range of our territory just as you, Sootflurry," her tone was matter-of-fact with an underlying presence of ice. Rosestar's stare suggested to Sootflurry that he was better not to interrogate her further on the subject. "Since you are here alone, as well, it seems, I suppose you had better stay with me." It felt very much like kit-sitting. But, in her mind, what more was to be expected of a kittypet? Additionally, part of her wanted to demand why he was out here this far without a patrol, but she didn't. "Help me walk the border and reinforcement our scent markers, given that you seem to have nothing better to do."sootflurry
